Unlocking the potential

The Global South’s greatest asset is not what you can dig out of the ground or grow in the soil. It is the young people. Ray Youssef®
About Ray Youssef

When Ray gave talks about crypto in the global South and explained the opportunities it presented, he saw people’s eyes light up when they recognized the potential. “They were emotional. They were excited. People in the West don’t understand how crypto can change lives.” Ray knew people in the Global South just needed a shot, a path towards success, because they were hungry for opportunities.

Ray was shocked the first time he went to Sub-Saharan Africa and met the people there. He was in awe when he went to Nigeria. The longer he stayed, the more he kept asking himself the same question – why aren’t these people as rich as the people in the West? It was the same wherever he went in the Global South – India, the Philippines, El Salvador, Columbia, Vietnam.

Building the new world

It begins with education and that’s why The Ray Fund has made a commitment to education in the Global South. Ray Youssef®

When Ray was two years old, his parents took him to the U.S. from his birthplace in Egypt because they saw no opportunities in their homeland. This deeply personal history still motivates Ray to help drive change in the world. “People shouldn’t have to leave their homes to be successful. That’s not right,” he says. “My parents had to leave their homeland and go to a place where most of the people there didn’t want them around. It was tough on my mother and father.”

About Ray Youssef

Ray says, “I talk at events all the time about this idea in the West that Africa is just a place of poverty, disease, and corruption. When I tell them that narrative is a false one, I often wonder how many people in the audience truly believe me. There are many vested interests quite happy for the rest of the world to think the Global South is a backwater. They want all the investment and opportunities for themselves. That’s natural.”

Ray believes that building the new world in the Global South requires focus on rebranding the region, especially in Africa. He says we have to create value by providing products and opportunities that unlock the potential of the region, and we have to ensure the profits generated in the region stay there.

Unlocking the potential

Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit

Ray has been an entrepreneur all of his adult life, and he’s been working-out for almost as long. He was born into a Muslim family, but only took his faith seriously after reevaluating his life in his early 30s – it became a watershed in his life. His spirituality connected to his mind/body philosophy gives him the power and faith to continue his mission to bring about change in the world.

In early adulthood, Ray tried boxing and later trained for two years as a mixed martial artist (MMA). He even had some amateur fights, and he continues to train and work on his mind, body and spirit connection. Ray says, “Sometimes I do more of one than the other, but I’ve come to realize that all those parts of my life go together. I’m usually working or I’m working-out, and they feed off each other. Together with my spirituality and my family, they are the core components of my life.”

healthy lifestyle and sport

Whenever you get lost or you’re uncertain about your path, the best thing is to focus on is your body because the returns are there – guaranteed returns. Ray Youssef®

Ray has been an entrepreneur all of his adult life, and he’s been working-out for almost as long. He was born into a Muslim family, but only took his faith seriously after reevaluating his life in his early 30s – it became a watershed in his life. It’s nothing new to say that any kind of exercise – working out, training for organized sports or fitness, body-building – requires discipline and motivation, and you need both of those attributes to succeed in business. If you have the discipline to train your body, you can probably transfer that work ethic to anything. But it goes deeper than that. There is a correlation between your ability to summon the mental energy to use your mind and the physical energy to lift some weights. People call it a mind-body philosophy, but lifting weights gives you endorphins and dopamine in much the same way that solving a business problem or having any kind of success does – your brain doesn’t know the difference.

Ray says one of the great things working-out has done for him is to help re-direct negative energy. If something isn’t going well at work or in any part of his life, he can do a work-out. “I might not be able to control everything that happening in my businesses due to external factors, but I can one hundred per cent control my workouts, even when I travel.” “Even outside of business, work-outs help me. Whenever you get lost or you’re uncertain about your path, the best thing is to focus on is your body because the returns are there – guaranteed returns. If some part of my life is not working, I always go back to training because I know I will have success if I do the work. I’ll see the changes in my body, and I’ll get the positive reinforcement that makes it easy to wake up each day and look forward to the challenges ahead.”

Ray says there is a lot of ignorance about what it takes to build a strong body. “You have to have the desire first – that goes without saying because no one can give you motivation, but realizing the connection between your body and your mind is just as important.

When he looks at his business, Ray doesn’t just look at revenue or marketing and products. He doesn’t focus only on his customers and his team. He looks at all the parts of his busines
